MY KIN’S STORIES

America is called the “melting pot”; a place where many immigrants could go to begin new lives. The families who form the different branches of my tree are no different from the millions who also converged into that melting pot.

My families came from Scotland, from Ireland, from England (Wales), Germany and Switzerland. There are possibly other ethnic regions represented which I have yet to uncover.

My families were not known to be national heroes or world-renown for their inventions or accomplishments. They were mostly farmers, coppersmiths, and blacksmiths, a lawyer here and there and perhaps even a few with questionable traits. I see them as “simple” people mostly interested in providing for their families. Some were soldiers fighting for what they believed.

In the end, my kin prospered, having given credence to the infamous words attributed to Horace Greeley since 1865 - “Go West Young Man, and grow up with the country.” My kin made good use of the trails west and grew with the numerous others who joined them.

My kin prospered and I am here today to say thank you and show others how they got to their personal destinies. I do not hide from the skeletons in the closets. Those skeletons originated in another time, a different era, and are not my personal responsibility. I do not hide from them as they are part of who I am.

The families represented on this website will include: Moore, Crayne, Link, Cook, Kelley, Carter, Roten, and numerous others as they are completed. Each family’s genealogy report shown is based on Family Tree Maker software. If you have difficulty following the pattern, feel free to contact the administrator for assistance. The genealogy reports only cover a limited number of generations from the known progenitor. I have done this in an attempt to protect the identification of family members still living. I may have erred and included a few still living. If you recognize someone listed who is still alive today, please contact me to have the appropriate changes made.

On each page, you may find names, dates, places or other events which are highlighted. These highlighted events are hyperlinks which will take you to a document or photo to support the finding. Feel free to send me your photos, documents and other information if you wish to have included. To those who have graciously sent photos of relatives and/or documents, or have given permission to use such images from other websites, I thank you. As this is a not-for-profit family genealogy website, these images are only presented for the benefit of other "family members" who have not been afforded the opportunity to see them before now. If you find a hyperlink not working, please contact the administrator.
